The Roaring Twenties

I've been doing lots of thinking lately. Thinking how most of your maturity comes when you're in your twenties. I look at my life and know I haven't done anything way spectacular yet. But I've come to realize how much life really does consist of learning and growing each day. I'm also beginning to learn the importance of self, self-worth, the power of women. I've been reading in Sherri Dew's book, "No Doubt" and have been slowly gaining more self-confidence as my role as a wife and eventually mother. There is a huge difference between women in the world, and not of the world. Twenties are definitely the time to figure out who you want to strive to become. I have this poem by Dr. Suess, and it pretty much sums up with what I'm striving to do each day.

You
"Today you are you. That is truer than true. There is no one alive that is You'er than you. Shout aloud, "I am glad to be what I am, thank goodness I'm not a ham or a clam or a dusty old bottle of gooseberry jam! I am what I am. What a great thing to be. If I say so myself, "Happy everyday to me!"

Good old Dr. Suess.

  1. Seeing as I just closed the 20's chapter of my life last year (ack!! really?!) I can agree to this. This was also a common topic of discussion among my friends, as we each approached the big 3-0 . . . the 20's are for learning, growing, figuring out who you want to be and how you're going to get there, dealing with those insecurities, beginning to establish healthy friendships, etc. etc. Granted, you still continue to do these things throughout your life -- but the 20's definitely set the stage.
I'm sure your 20's will be beautiful . . . with lots of great experiences! The fact that you are even thinking about this so early in the game says a lot about your maturity and "growth" already. :)

  2. my twenties have certainly been full of change in my life including who I am. I still feel I've got so much to grow, I was just thinking about that yesterday, I use to think I had it all figured out, :::sigh::: great thoughts thanks for sharing.

  3. It's true. So many things change in our lives at this point. Just last year I graduated from college, moved half-way across the country, we started a new job, bought a house, and had a baby! I am already a completely different (better!) person than I was only three years ago when I turned 20.
And isn't it wonderful that we have a Church that recognizes and celebrates the divine role of womanhood? I love it.

  5. Breanna, you are so great. I love watching you grow and mature. It's so fun to see you realizing what I knew all along. You are the best; friend, daughter, sister and I know the wife thing is coming right along too -- it's always a big adjustment. Thanks for all you teach me and for your great example. Love ya, Mom.
